The Games with Gold initiative is a move by Microsoft to make Xbox Live Gold more appealing, with two free game downloads per month. Halo 3's multiplayer mode has had a continued cult following since the game's release. It was met with a hugely positive critical reception, gaining a score of 94 on Metacritic. Halo 3, the third game in Bungie's sci-fi franchise of the same name, was released in 2007 for the Xbox 360. Microsoft has also made some Halo 3 multiplayer map packs available at no cost and discounted others.
Gold subscribers on the Xbox 360 are currently able to download Halo 3 for free until midnight on October 31.
